Saint Joan of Arc Mission, rooted in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, is a vibrant spiritual community under The Phoenix Monastery. Dedicated to fostering inclusive worship and spiritual growth, the mission embodies a progressive approach to Anglo-Catholic traditions. Led by the Very Rev. Felix Cheah, the Provost, this congregation gathers to celebrate faith, offer pastoral care, and engage in acts of service, both in person and virtually. With a focus on openness and compassion, St. Joan of Arc Mission serves as a welcoming space for all who seek a deeper connection to faith and community.

About Saint Joan
​St. Joan of Arc
St. Joan of Arc (1412–1431) is one of history’s most inspiring figures, celebrated for her extraordinary bravery, unwavering faith, and saintly qualities. Born in the small village of Domrémy in northeastern France, Joan was the daughter of devout peasants. Despite her humble origins, she rose to become a symbol of national unity and a beacon of hope during one of France’s darkest periods—the Hundred Years’ War.

Early Life and Divine Calling
Joan demonstrated a profound sense of piety and devotion to God from an early age. At the age of 13, she began experiencing visions of St. Michael, St. Catherine, and St. Margaret, who she believed were divine messengers. These celestial voices urged her to undertake a daunting mission: to save France from English domination and ensure the coronation of Charles VII as the rightful king.
Her visions inspired an unshakable resolve. Despite her youth and lack of formal training, Joan’s conviction propelled her to seek an audience with Charles VII. Her persistence and apparent divine inspiration eventually convinced him to entrust her with troops—a decision that was unprecedented for a teenage peasant girl in a deeply patriarchal society.​​
Military Leadership and Heroic Deeds​
Joan’s leadership on the battlefield was nothing short of miraculous. In 1429, she led French forces to lift the Siege of Orléans, a critical turning point in the war. Her courage, strategic acumen, and unwavering faith galvanized the demoralized French troops and reinvigorated their fight against the English. Clad in white armor and carrying a banner emblazoned with religious symbols, Joan embodied the spirit of divine justice and national pride.
Following the victory at Orléans, Joan continued her campaign, leading the French army to a series of successes, including the decisive Battle of Patay. Her efforts culminated in the coronation of Charles VII in Reims Cathedral, fulfilling her divine mission and legitimizing his rule. Joan’s triumphs not only reshaped the course of the war but also solidified her place as a national hero.

Imprisonment and Martyrdom
Joan’s meteoric rise, however, drew the ire of powerful enemies. In 1430, she was captured by Burgundian forces and sold to the English, who sought to undermine her influence and tarnish her legacy. Subjected to a politically motivated trial, Joan faced accusations of heresy, witchcraft, and cross-dressing—a reference to her wearing men’s military attire for practicality and protection.
Throughout her trial, Joan displayed remarkable courage and intellectual prowess. Despite relentless pressure and threats, she steadfastly defended her faith and mission. On May 30, 1431, she was burned at the stake in Rouen, dying at the age of 19. Her final words were a testament to her faith: she cried out the name of Jesus as she perished.​​
Canonization and Legacy
In 1920, nearly five centuries after her death, Joan was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church. Today, she is venerated as the patron saint of France, soldiers, and those who strive for justice. Her life and martyrdom remain a powerful testament to the triumph of conviction, faith, and courage over adversity.
